Newark Resident Advances in NASCAR POWERBALL® — The Chase to $1 Million
Douglas Hermann represents Delaware in The Chase to $1 Million.
NEWARK, Del. (Sept. 6, 2026) — Newark resident Douglas Hermann is representing Delaware as one of 25 lottery players nationwide advancing in NASCAR POWERBALL® — The Chase to $1 Million, putting him one step closer to a $1 million prize.
Hermann was selected through an in-state promotion held through the Delaware Lottery’s Players Club and has already won $2,000. He now advances to the national competition, where a series of drawings will narrow the field to four finalists competing for $1 million during NASCAR Championship Weekend in Miami.
Hermann, who is a NASCAR fan, has been a Delaware Lottery player since 1975 and plays POWERBALL® often, especially when the jackpot is high. Before now, his biggest win was $100 over 30 years ago. “When I got the call that I’d been selected to be a national semifinalist, I was stunned,” said Hermann. “I am very excited to represent Delaware and hope to cash a big check in November!”

The 25 semifinalists were revealed during coverage of the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on USA Network. Over the next several weeks, Hermann and the other 24 semifinalists will participate in a series of drawings inspired by NASCAR’s championship format, earning additional cash prizes each time they advance.

The four finalists will each receive a VIP trip for two to NASCAR Championship Weekend in Miami and a spot in the $1 million drawing. The experience includes airfare, hotel accommodations and VIP access to NASCAR Championship Weekend events at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
POWERBALL® is in its fourth year as the Official Lottery Game of NASCAR, and Delaware has been well represented. In 2024, Anthony Lawerence of Magnolia was one of four finalists and won $10,000. Last year, David Zettlemeyer, also from Magnolia, won $3,000 after advancing to the round of 12. The promotion this year will culminate Nov. 8, when one of the four finalists will win $1 million live before the NASCAR Cup Series Championship™ race.
